Pie for Pi, (3.14)

March 12, 2021

Mathematicians, among others, observe Pi Day on March 14 in keeping with Pi as 3.14 (or extended as, 3.1415926535…). While you can commemorate the occasion with some clever calculations, I suggest another formula. Check out some “pie” from Steenbock’s cookbook collection. Browse our Pinterest board (with links) or search the online catalog. Requests can be placed from catalog records for pick-up by appointment. (Learn more about our library services by appointment).

From off-site, browse the digitized Carson Gulley Cookbook Collection for recipes to campus favorites including fudge bottom pie (see the desserts section from Seasoning Secrets and Favorite Recipes of Carson Gulley). See also a modest selection of online books to sweet and savory baking: Great Old Fashioned American Desserts (Ojakangas), How to Bake Everything (Bittman), and Savoring the Seasons of the Northern Heartland (Dooley).

Enjoy rationing your slices!
