Borrow / Renew / Request

To borrow stack materials (most books, documents and audiovisuals)

  • take them to the Circulation/Reserves Desk located on the entrance level (2nd floor)
  • or, UW-Madison faculty, staff and students may use the Place Request button in the Library Catalog to have Steenbock materials delivered to another campus library.

UW-Madison faculty/staff/graduate students: Semester loan with 6 renewals
Books Most users: 28 days with 2 renewals
UW-Madison faculty/staff/graduate students: Semester loan with 6 renewals
(All items can be recalled after 14 days)

Journals Non-circulating
Government Documents Most users: 28 days with 2 renewals
UW-Madison faculty/staff/graduate students: Semester loan with 6 renewals

Returning Items

Returning items to Steenbock Library
Steenbock Libary has two book drops –  outside near the entrance or inside at the Steenbock Circulation/Reserves desk (2nd floor).

Returning items to other libraries
Most Steenbock Library items may be returned to any campus library participating in Open Return.

DO NOT return the following Steenbock materials to other campus libraries:

  • reserve materials
  • journals
  • audiovisual materials (maps, videos, audiocassettes, microfiche, microfilm, etc.)
  • items with loan periods of seven days or less
