Go Big Read Selected for 2019-2020

May 1, 2019

Chancellor Rebecca Blank and a review committee of campus faculty, staff and students have selected Deborah Blum’s The Poison Squad as the 2019-2020 shared book selection for the UW-Madison campus.

In this book, author Deborah Blum recounts the history of the “pure food and drug act,” its crusading chemist, Dr. Harvey Washington Wiley, and the legions of activists, journalists, scientists and human subjects (the “poison squad”) who would campaign mightily for consumer health and safety.

UW-Madison instructors who are interested in using the book in class can request review copies and copies for their students by contacting the Go Big Read office.

Go Big Read is UW-Madison’s common book program. Students, staff and community are invited to read the same book then participate in a variety of related programs in-and-out of the classroom. Go Big Read will welcome your participation with this new selection during the forthcoming academic year.

Consult with campus and area public libraries for available copies.
