JRR Services and Collection Relocation Information

The Journalism Reading Room is transitioning out of functioning as a library. This means the JRR will no longer be available for picking up holds, checking out course reserve items, and will no longer have a physical book collection. Rest assured that our equipment checkout will still be available.

The School of Journalism and Mass Communications remains committed to renovating the space and keeping it open in the coming semesters for continued use by students, staff, and faculty. Updates regarding this project will be coming soon. If you have any questions, you can email the department administrator, Amanda Kruger.

Key Dates

  • May 5th, 2026: Final day to check out equipment before the semester ends
  • May 6th, 2026: Last day to pick up holds, return equipment, and generally use the space
  • May 7th, 2026: Final day to return print materials to the JRR drop box. Staff begin relevant collection transfer to Memorial Library and withdraw unnecessary items.
  • Summer 2026: The JRR will be closed to the public
  • (Tentatively) September 2026: The JRR will reopen for the Journalism and Mass Communications community.

All items remaining on the hold shelf after May 6th will be routed to Memorial Library.

The unique materials from the JRR’s collection will be transferred to Memorial Library and available in the Library Catalogue once the transfer process is complete.
