Staff Information

All staff who play a role in maintaining the Madison LGBTQ+ Archive are located within the University Archives and Records Management unit located on the fourth floor (room 425) of Steenbock Memorial Library on the UW-Madison campus. There are no full-time permanent staff dedicated solely to the Madison LGBTQ+ Archive. We do, however, employ graduate student staff to help arrange and describe collections, as well as process and conduct oral histories. Katie Nash (she/her) — University Archivist and Head of UW Archives

Katie Nash is the University Archivist and Head of UW Archives at UW-Madison and is the point person for the Madison LGBTQ+ Archive. She contributes to collection development; makes decisions about access and use of archival collections; directs outreach and programming; supervises student employees; and handles other administrative duties related to the Madison LGBTQ+ Archive.  

Troy Reeves (he/him) — Distinguished Oral Historian

Troy Reeves leads the Oral History Program at the UW Archives and was one of the co-founders of the Madison LGBTQ+ Archive. He spearheaded the oral history project that started in 2007, which led to the more formal creation of the Madison LGBTQ+ Archive. He currently oversees all responsibilities and initiatives related to collecting, preserving, and making available oral histories associated with the Madison LGBTQ+ Archive.

Visiting Information

The Madison LGBTQ+ Archive is located within University Archives and Records Management on the fourth floor (room 425) of Steenbock Memorial Library on the UW-Madison campus.

The Madison LGBTQ+ Archive adheres to the hours of operation for University Archives and Records Management, including closures or adjusted hours for holidays and campus events. University Archives is open 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed Saturday and Sunday. 

If you are planning a trip to the UW Archives, please call 608-262-5629 or email us in advance. University Archives guidelines and instructions for visitation, including parking and direction information, are also applicable to the Madison LGBTQ+ Archive.

LGBTQ+ Archive Committee

The Madison LGBTQ+ Archive is advised and guided by a committee made up of staff from UW-Madison and community members. This unique partnership and collaboration is part of the foundation of the Archive and speaks directly to the mission to, “…foster intergenerational dialogue, inform education, and inspire intersectional research, activism, and advocacy” all in the spirit of honoring contributions of LGBTQ+ communities. The dedicated committee members actively participate in collection development, policy creation, outreach and programming, fundraising, and advise on a number of other matters including the financial status of the Archive.
