Patent and trademark services have been relocated from Wendt Library to Steenbock Library.
Steenbock Library is a designated Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC). Patent librarians provide patent and trademark information and searching assistance for the general public and the UW-Madison community.
The Patents and Trademarks Research Guide provides basic information on patents and trademarks, searching tips and tutorials, online resources, and help for inventors and researchers. For a more detailed introduction to intellectual property and patents, you can also review the following UW Libraries micro-courses:
Steenbock offers patent and trademark assistance by phone (608-262-3007), email, virtual consultation, or in person:
Appointments strongly recommended to ensure librarian availability.
Steenbock librarians cannot do a patent search for you or offer legal advice. We urge you to contact a registered patent attorney for legal questions about your individual situation. See our Patents research guide for legal resources. The completeness and accuracy of a patent or trademark search rests entirely with the individual conducting the search.
