Parkland selected for 2020-21 Go Big Read
Chancellor Rebecca Blank and a review committee of campus faculty, staff and students have selected Dave Cullen’s Parkland: Birth of a Movement as the 2020-21 shared book selection for the UW-Madison campus.
Dave Cullen, author of Columbine, returns to the topic of school violence with a powerful, yet hopeful, accounting of how students–this time from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida–could channel their anger, frustration and hurt into a movement for change. Within days of the shooting, these students would orchestrate the March for our Lives, inspiring their peers to raise voices in solidarity.
UW-Madison instructors interested in using the book in class can request review copies and copies for their students by contacting the Go Big Read office. At this time, review copies will be provided as e-text.
Go Big Read is UW-Madison’s common book program. Students, staff and community are invited to read the selected book then participate in a variety of related programs in-and-out of the classroom. Go Big Read will welcome your participation with this new selection during the forthcoming academic year.
