Lewis Named Associate Dean of Libraries for IT & Administration
UW–Madison Libraries is proud to announce that Anna Lewis has begun her role as Associate Dean of Libraries for Information Technology and Administration, effective December 1, 2025.
Lewis brings a distinguished record of leadership to her new role, joining Libraries from UW–Madison’s School of Education, where she served as co-CIO and co-director of MERIT (Media, Education, Research & Information Technology). Both MERIT Library and the Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC) reported to her. In the School of Education, she guided teams on initiatives that strengthened the school’s systems and budget planning, while advancing initiatives like new faculty onboarding and the construction of new active learning classrooms.
“I’m elated to be joining the Libraries in this new role,” said Lewis. “I was drawn to the changing culture within UW–Madison Libraries: decisive, fast-paced, and strategically focused.”
Lewis served the broader UW–Madison community by helping to create the campus policy library and implementing new supports for staff encountering hostile and intimidating behavior. She’s held positions on numerous committees, such as the Divisional Technology Leadership Group and the Libraries Leadership Council.
Lewis also held the position of Interim Director of Research IT at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER), one of the largest university-housed educational research centers in the nation. Prior to her roles at UW–Madison, Lewis was a high school librarian in Raleigh, North Carolina.
As Associate Dean of Libraries for Information Technology and Administration, Lewis will lead the development, programming, operations, and assessment of several campus-wide library services, including information technology and administrative services. She will also cultivate relationships with stakeholders, advise on critical issues, and report annually on program and service achievements.
“I am impressed by the extraordinary staff who sustain both our critical day-to-day operations, while also providing the vision and execution to evolve our services to meet the changing needs of our clients at UW-Madison,” says Lewis.
Lewis is one of two new associate deans to join UW–Madison Libraries in late fall 2025. The Libraries are pleased to welcome Lewis’s expertise and vision as the team grows under the leadership of Dean and Vice Provost of Libraries Erla Heyns.
