Carrie Kruse named as new Associate Dean of Libraries for Public Services
UW-Madison Libraries announce the appointment of Carrie Kruse as the new Associate Dean of Libraries for Public Services.
The Associate Dean for Public Services serves as a member of the Libraries Executive Council and has broad oversight of public-facing library services, such as circulation, reference, teaching & learning programs, security & facilities management, as well as International & Area Studies. The Associate Dean provides high-level direction for operations at AMP, College, Geology, Memorial, Steenbock, and Social Work Libraries as well as the Business Learning Commons and Chemistry Information Commons.
Carrie currently serves as the Interim Associate Dean for Public Services and has served as Director of College Library for twenty years. Over the last ten years, she has also been the Director of User Experience & Library Spaces for the Libraries overall. Carrie’s work on “library as place” is evident in the many space-related services in College Library, including a café, innovative digital-media and active learning classroom spaces, a large computer lab, 24-hour service, and sustainability initiatives. Under Carrie’s leadership, College Library has fostered many campus partnerships, providing library spaces to host the summer in-person advising and enrollment program (SOAR), GUTS tutoring services, the Writing Center, and University Health Services programs, among others. The library has been recognized with several partnership awards from the Division of Student Affairs, demonstrating our commitment to student academic and wellbeing needs.
Carrie has been professionally active in a variety of areas and has presented at state, national, and international conferences on subjects including information literacy, multimedia tutorials, diversity and social justice initiatives, library spaces, and Women’s Studies. Carrie was recognized by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Women & Gender Studies Section first in 2006 with the Significant Achievement in Women’s Studies Librarianship Award and then in 2019 with the Award for Career Achievement in Women’s and Gender Studies Librarianship. Carrie received her MLS from UW-Madison and a BA in English from Earlham College.
Please join us in congratulating Carrie Kruse. We look forward to her continued leadership, expertise, and positive impact on our libraries.
