Requesting Library Materials

This tutorial will explain how UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff may request items and have them delivered to a campus library of their choice for pickup.

Requesting and Recalling Items through the Library Catalog

When you have found an item you want in the library catalog, select the “Availability” button under the item title in the search results page to find whether it is available. Select the item title to open the full item information page and find whether the item is available in physical copy or online formats.

To place a request for the physical item:

  1. Select the item title.
  2. Select the “Request a Copy” button in the full item information page.
  3. You may be prompted to log in with your NetID.
  4. Select “Physical Item” on the next screen. You will be given an estimated delivery time for the item. If you want only a chapter or a portion of the book, select “Partial Digital Copy” instead of “Physical Item.”
  5. Select the desired pickup location from the list.
  6. Select the “Request for Pickup” button.
  7. You will receive an email notification when the item is available for pickup or partial digital copy is available for download.

Not all items are available for request. Ask a Librarian for help with accessing resources.
