Citing Manuscript Collections

The following is an example based on a MLA citation best practices for manuscript collections. Manuscript collections can include a variety of materials, including but not limited to: correspondence, meeting minutes, financial records, personal papers, diaries, scrapbooks, and news clippings.

Manuscript citation format

Author last name, First name middle name or initial. Title or description of item. Day month year. Collection name. Unique identifier (e.g., accession number, series number, or UAC number), Box number, Folder number. University of Wisconsin-Madison Archives, Madison, WI.
