Update: Libraries Services In Response to COVID-19 Impact

March 13, 2020

Updated: March 18, 5:55pm

In response to the developing situation around COVID-19’s impact on Madison, the UW-Madison Libraries continue to coordinate closely with campus on the necessary path forward to ensure the health and well-being of our community. As of March 18, the all campus library spaces, are closed. **Laptops and requested materials will be provided for pickup between 12pm-4pm at the Memorial Library entrance (M-F).** We recognize the transition to online classes beginning March 23 creates questions for those who wish to access our various services. As this event continues to change, colleagues across campus are working to find solutions for ongoing library operations that support the continuation of instruction and research.

Please know the Libraries always make it a priority to assist our patrons, and will continue to do so during this period. It is a fluid situation, so please be sure to check library.wisc.edu/covid19 for updates from the Libraries.

Librarian Consultations

Subject librarians with expertise in specific disciplines are available for remote consultations via phone and email. Librarians may choose to schedule a virtual consultation with you via a web-conferencing tool (e.g. WebEx).

Online Collections and Materials

The UW-Madison Libraries provide remote access to electronic books, journals, databases, and more for students and staff.

  • Search our Catalog: Check the “Available Online” box to only get results that are accessible online
  • Choose a Database: We have online databases of scholarly articles, books, media, and more for all disciplines, and almost all of them are available off-campus.
  • View our Digital Collections: The UW Digital Collections (UWDC) is a special collection containing millions of images, books, maps, recordings, and more from UW-System, Wisconsin, and the world.
  • Explore a Subject Guide: Created by librarians, Subject Guides bring together major resources and information on a specific topic (e.g. French revolution) or discipline (e.g. Microbiology).

If you find you need assistance:

  • Get Help: We have created online video tutorials and guides to help you navigate our resources. You can also always ASK a Librarian for assistance!
  • Remote Access Troubleshooting: Having trouble getting access to online resources from your home? These pages explain how we provide remote access to subscription resources. An active NetID is required for all off-campus access.
