Libraries to Close Tuesday 5pm (1/29) – Noon Thursday (1/31) Due to Weather

January 29, 2019

In response to the extreme cold, UW-Madison is canceling classes, events and campus activities beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday through noon Thursday.

During this period, only essential campus services will be operating. Essential functions generally include, but are not limited to, University Housing and Dining, life/safety, essential research and animal care, and Physical Plant. The Libraries do NOT fall under essential operations so our facilities will be closed from Tuesday 5pm – Thursday at Noon.

Library online services, like the catalog and databases, will remain available throughout the weather event. The Libraries will also be providing online chat services during these times:

  • Tuesday until 9 pm
  • Wednesday 8 am – 9 pm
  • Thursday 8 am – 11 pm

The Historical Society plans to reopen Thursday at 8 am. All other library facilities will begin reopening at noon on Thursday.

Additional information will be provided to employees from campus. Please be sure to check Campus Alerts for updated information on a regular basis. For more information on the campus inclement weather guidelines, please check this site.

The National Weather Service is forecasting extremely low temperatures, with a wind chill warning beginning Tuesday at 6 p.m. until noon Thursday. For more information on ways to protect yourself from the cold, review information from UHS.

More information will be shared as it is available.
