Spring Book Sale Starts March 29 at Memorial Library!

March 28, 2015

The Friends of the UW-Madison Libraries Spring 2017 Book Sale will be held Wednesday, March 29 through Saturday, April 1, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Memorial Library in room 116.

This semiannual sale, organized by the Friends, helps to support Friends programming like our annual lecture series and other special events, special purchases for the library collections, preservation of special materials, and grants for a visiting scholar support program.

Nearly 60 volunteers coordinate the event that draws students, faculty and visitors from around the Midwest. Books for the sale are donated primarily by University of Wisconsin faculty, staff, students, and Madison-area residents.

We accept donations for upcoming sales on a continual basis. For details on how to give materials to the book sale, read the section on donations below. The sale is free (except the preview sale) and open to the public.

Preview sales are held on the Wednesday before a scheduled sale, and require a $5 admission fee. Regular sales have no admission fee and run Thursday through Saturday, with the Saturday sale offering books at $4 per bag (bring your own bag).

Donations

Donations are welcome throughout the year and are tax-deductible.

Books, music, and other items donated to the Friends are most often used in the Friends Book Sales, the proceeds from which support the operations of the UW-Madison Libraries. Donations are also reviewed by library bibliographers, with an eye toward filling needs in the collections.

If you are on campus, and you have materials to donate, you may drop them off at a campus library, or (if you are in a building without a library) you may arrange for a pickup by the UW Truck Service (608-262-1574). This service is free for a small number of boxes; for a large number of boxes, please contact Carol Schlatter at Memorial Library to arrange for a special pickup.

Materials may also be dropped off at the Lake Street dock of Memorial Library weekdays, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. This space is monitored, so it is not necessary to ring the bell at the dock, or to wait for a staffer to open the door.

Please clearly mark the boxes or bags as a donation to the Friends of the Libraries. If you wish to receive a letter of acknowledgement of your donation for tax purposes, please include your name and address on each box and/or bag.

All gifts of materials support the mission of libraries and are greatly appreciated. Thousands of titles new to the collections, and within the libraries’ collecting scope, are added through gifts annually.
