A Pie Competition for a Great Cause

November 25, 2013

UW–Madison Libraries celebrated pie, Thanksgiving, and Partners in Giving all with one event: a pie contest between colleagues! This past Friday, staff members raised money and their blood sugar for the workplace giving campaign. To vote, staff members bought $147.50 worth of stickers to place on pie favorites. Vice Provost of the Libraries Ed Van Gemert and Financial Specialist Tina Denker won again this year, and again with apple pies! (Librarians must have a thing for a homebaked apple pie…) Kelli Hughes, Public Services Librarian of College Library, came in third with a delicious bourbon chocolate pecan pie.

Jessica Newman and Cat Phan, organizers of the pie contest, also noted that in just one hour, 13 staff members pledged a portion of their paychecks to Partners in Giving. Staff members can choose to donate to large umbrella causes, such as cancer research, or they can choose a specific organization, like the Dane County Humane Society. No matter what staff members choose, we know that librarians are a giving and generous bunch of folks. They’re here to help!

As a reminder, the Partners in Giving Campaign officially ends on November 29, but staff members can turn in their forms through the end of the year and it will still count toward next year’s total. Email Cat Phan at cphan@library.wisc.edu if you have any questions.
