Retro Photos Return

November 3, 2017

Students had the chance to position themselves (literally) within an iconic image of the University of Wisconsin at the #StudyStrong Academic Resource Fair in September. Participants who visited the Retro Photo Booth, located in the library’s 2nd floor InfoLab, chose props and posed in front of a green screen for photographers. With the help of staff from DesignLab and Software Training for Students (STS), their images were added to one of five historical photographs – Old-time Bucky, 1940s State Street, Lady Liberty of Mendota, 1970s News Crew, or a Red Gym Joust.

Access to the original images was provided by Cat Phan, Digital & Media Archivist at University Archives, who also served as a photographer at the event. Thanks also go to library staff for providing all of the props and any technical support required. For those interested in attempting similar results, cameras and lighting equipment can be checked out from College Library’s computer lab. It’s also possible to reserve certain items for a specific time period; find details at our Reserve Equipment page.
