I. “CRIMES PERPETRATED BY THE U.S. IMPERIALISTS IN NORTH VIET NAM IN APRIL AND MAY 1968”

In face of heavy military and political failures in both zones North and South Viet Nam, and the ever-stronger protest movement against the U.S. war of aggression in Viet Nam by the peoples the world over, the United States included, L.B. Johnson had to declare the limited bombings in North Viet Nam on March 31, 1968.

But let’s have a look at the real facts! The area still under bombing attacks is an important part of the DRVN extending from the 17th parallel to the 20th parallel over 300 kilometres long with 4,500,000 inhabitants. On this area the U.S. imperialists have enormously increased their bombing raids more savage and fierce than ever before: 3,500 times in April and 4,700 times in May (formerly 2,500 times per month in the whole of North Viet Nam on the average); that is 115 times a day on the average in April and 152 times a day in May.

The number of bombs used has been much greater; in May (1968) alone 800 time-bombs were used against 200 civilian targets from Thanh Hoa to Quang-Binhand nearly 1,000 mother bombs carrying more than 600,000 small globular bombs (steel- pellet bombs) against civilians.

The U.S. imperialists have also used a large number of napalm and phosphorous bombs in Vinh Ling and Quang Binh areas.

Having suffered heavy losses during the generalized offensive and simultaneous uprisings by the South Viet Nam army and people from the beginning of Spring 1968, the U.S. aggressors have frantically bombed and strafed at random on thickly populated areas in big cities under their control in South Viet Nam.
