Mark Your Calendars for Press Play: Recorded Sound from Groove to Stream

September 15, 2022

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 28, 2022, 3:00-4:00 p.m., to stop by Special Collections to see (and hear) the exhibit Press Play: Recorded Sound from Groove to Stream. Curator Nathan D. Gibson will be on hand to chat with you about the content and the curation. You’ll also have the chance to hear the earliest recording of “On, Wisconsin!” played back on the Edison C-19 “Chippendale” phonograph that’s part of the exhibit. You may listen to the digital transfer in our Press Play playlist, but this is a rare chance to hear the 78rpm record by the New York Military Band, released by Edison in 1915, played on this Edison phonograph.

Drop by Special Collections any time between 3:00 and 4:00. There will be no formal program and no formal remarks. Light snacks will be served. All staff are welcome! If you can’t make it, you may always visit the exhibit Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.
