New Faces at the Libraries: Missy Motl
In February 2020, the UW-Madison Libraries welcomed Missy Motl as our new Electronic Resources Management Librarian.
Before coming to Madison, Missy was a librarian at the UW two-year campus located in Fond du Lac. As the only librarian on a staff of two, Missy says she got to do a little bit of everything there. Since joining UW-Madison, her favorite part of her position so far has been troubleshooting access issues for library e-resources.
Through the virtual events hosted by the Libraries Onboarding Committee, Missy has learned a bunch of interesting facts about the Libraries and UW-Madison. The one that stands out to her the most is when the badger mascot was briefly replaced by a raccoon (named Regdab – ‘badger’ spelled backward) in the 1940’s – a short-lived attempt to find a tamer mascot!
Missy moved to Madison right before the pandemic disrupted everyday life, so she hasn’t had much opportunity to explore the city yet but is looking forward to the warmer months of summer and being able to safely experience all that Madison has to offer!
Four Fun Facts about Missy:
- Favorite book: Jane Eyre, though that can change depending on a variety of factors!
- A perfect day in Madison: Hanging out with my family and exploring the city
- Something surprising: I was on my high school curling team – we even went to state my senior year!
- Favorite color: Yellow
