National Library Week 2020!

April 20, 2020

It’s National Library Week! And while we may have to celebrate a little differently this year, we want to celebrate the positive impact libraries have during this time.

The American Library Association notes the theme this year is “Find Your Place at the Library.” ALA chose the theme before anyone could imagine the impact of this global pandemic, including forcing most libraries to close physical spaces temporarily.

However, the theme still rings true. You can always find your place at the library. Why? Because libraries are open online, providing the virtual services and digital content our communities need – more than ever. Access to services and resources like ebooks, databases, research materials, movies, music, video games, even virtual storytimes and activities, just to name a few. They’re also working to document this historic moment in time through a number of archiving projects – and need YOUR voice. And of course, there’s always Ask a Librarian, from the comfort of your own home.

So while we may not be enjoying the physical library locations, we can still enjoy the services, resources, and opportunities for learning that libraries offer – even from afar. Help us show appreciation for the innovative ways libraries, librarians, and library workers continue to serve their communities during this challenging time.
