Making a Difference Together – 2019 Partners in Giving

November 7, 2019

by Lisa Carter, Vice Provost for Libraries

This year’s Partners in Giving campaign runs until November 29. Each year state and university employees join forces to raise funds for more than 500 charitable, social, environmental, and civic organizations.

The General Library System has a strong history of participation:

  • 2017 – $18,898 raised / 24% participation
  • 2018 – $23,154 raised / 25% participation

Last year, GLS contributions helped raise $2.42 million in the overall campaign, and as of November 5, we have a 15% rate of participation. Let’s continue the upward trend of involvement!

Savannah

Many of us know someone who has been helped by one of the fantastic charities. I’m sure you will find at least one cause that speaks to you. My partner and I selected a few charities, including one called Alley Cat Allies, an advocacy organization for stray, feral, and community cats. We chose this because our cat, Savannah, was once a stray and we’ve witnessed the impact an organization like this can make.

This year, I hope the GLS will have more donors and this goal can only be reached through the participation of employees like you. Your contribution is valuable – as little as $1 a month not only helps a charity of your choice, but also counts as participation. With your help, we could reach a 30% participation rate!

I’d like to thank Ellen Jacks and Emily Eichstedt Anderson, our Campaign Co-chairs, for their leadership. They hosted a great potluck in October—it was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with colleagues. They are planning another event for November 20 at the Biocommons at Steenbock that will include a drop-in game-a-thon from 10 am – 4 pm.

Please make plans to come by on November 20 as well as join us in participating in the campaign!
