Witness to an Ending by Allan McNab

Witness to an Ending, a recent Parallel Press (UW–Madison Libraries, 2013) publication, was featured in a moving article on December 18, 2013 by Doug Moe, columnist for the Wisconsin State Journal. Moe writes regularly for the Journal on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays, and Sundays. He writes about Madison and the people who make it a unique place.

Moe offers us a preview of McNab’s life full of adventures, war, celebrity, art, and involvement in cataclysmic events of the 20th century. McNab began writing his memoir after he married his wife, Marjorie Kreilick, a professor for the UW–Madison Art Department from 1953-1991. McNab died of a heart attack as he was delivering the pages of his memoir to his typist in 1982. Moe illuminates the relationship between McNab and Kreilick, and the work on the memoir that Kreilick carried on after McNab’s death.

The culmination of the collaborative relationship between McNab and Kreilick came this fall, with an exhibit titled Mosaics and Memoir at the Kohler Art Library featuring both Kreilick’s artwork and a showcase devoted to McNab’s memoir. Library News & Events reported on the opening reception, including photos from the event.
