Beth Hoven Rotto and the Scandinavian American Old-Time Dance Music Ensemble play while folks dance at the Spring Dance, Great Hall, Memorial Union, UW–Madison, April 18, 2022

Coming off the heels of a fantastic debut performance in the Great Hall of Memorial Union on UW–Madison’s campus, the Ensemble will be performing their old-time repertoire for dancers at a recently refurbished barn in Middleton, WI. This event will be about as close as you’ll come to an old-time barn dance from the turn of the 20th century, featuring dance tunes of the Scandinavian-Americans who settled in the Driftless Area. Expect a slightly rustic setting, with portable toilets, some original (and uneven) floorboards, and a cheerful, casual atmosphere!

The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided. Carpooling and masks encouraged but not required. We hope to see you there!

This event is sponsored by Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures, the Sustaining Scandinavian Folk Arts in the Upper Midwest project, Mills Music LibraryMead Witter School of Music, and the Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic+.
