The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War

Free and Open to the Public

Thursday, February 18, 2016
5:00 – 7:00pm
Varsity Hall I, Union South, 1308 West Dayton Street

Come to Union South to hear Doug Bradley and Craig Werner discuss their recently published book, We Gotta Get Out of This Place: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War, in which they explore the impact of popular music on veterans’ experiences during the war, and address how and why U.S. troops turned to music as a way of coping with the complexities of the war they had been sent to fight. Bradley and Werner have been working on this project for over a decade, and share how they got the idea in this 2006 UW-Madison News story. Their book was ranked No. 1 on Rolling Stone’s list of the best music books of 2015. The talk will be followed by a brief reception where copies of the book will be available for sale. For more information about the book, the music, and the authors, visit the official We Gotta Get Out of this Place website.

Mills Music Library is pleased to co-sponsor this Friends of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries event with the Department of Afro-American Studies and Integrated Liberal Studies.
