Reserves

Department of Journalism instructors may place items on reserve (electronic and print) through the JRR. Please see the reserves page for more information.

Library Instruction

The JRR’s PA Librarian is available to provide instruction for Journalism classes. Library instruction available includes:

  • In-class sessions on library services and resources
  • Research guides for individual classes

Frank Thayer Alcove

Department of Journalism faculty may reserve the Frank Thayer Alcove. To reserve the alcove, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into your UW e-mail (WiscMail) account on your web browser. To open your calendar, select the Calendar icon from the toolbar on the left side of the page.
  2. Click the New event button on the upper left side of the screen, or double click on the desired day on the calendar grid to open a new calendar form.
  3. Fill out the information for your event.
  4. Type SJMC – 2130a Vilas – JRR Alcove directly in the Search for a room or location field. Details related to the room’s availability should appear in the column on the right-hand side of the calendar form.
  5. Click Send. You should receive a confirmation e-mail in your inbox with a link to the SJMC Event Technology Request form and instructional information on how to use the resources in the Alcove. If you have any additional questions about reserving the Frank Thayer Alcove, please email the JRR’s PA Librarian.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

You can use the JRR as a pick-up or drop-off point for all library materials. When requesting an item from UW-Madison Libraries, from another UW system library, or through Interlibrary Loan, select the Journalism Circulation Desk as your pick-up location. You may also return materials to the JRR and they will be routed to the appropriate library. Please see this page for more information about requesting materials at UW-Madison Libraries.

Faculty Runner Card

A faculty member can designate a student or staff member to obtain books at other campus libraries for them. To designate a faculty runner please see these instructions.
