Accessing the Library

Morgridge Hall Maps

Entrances

To enter the School of CDIS Library:

  • Both main entrances of Morgridge Hall have “wave to open” sensors on the right hand side of the doors.
  • From the University Ave entrance, enter, walk straight, and either take the stairs located on the right, near the center of the building, or take the elevators located on the left near the center of the building.
  • From the Orchard Street entrance, enter, walk straight, there are three steps to get to the main lobby and a ramp located to the left of the steps. From the main lobby the elevators are located to the right and the main staircase is located to the left.
  • Take the elevator, or use the main staircase to get to the 2nd Floor. The library is located to the left as you exit the elevator and is located in front of you and slightly to the right as you exit the stairs.
  • There are multiple sets of stairs that get to the 2nd floor of Morgridge Hall where the CDIS Library is located. If you need assistance to access the library via stairs, please give us a call at 608-262-4569.
  • The doors to the building lock when the building is closed, students and staff with after-hours access will need to scan their WiscCard on the ID scanners located on either side of the main entrances to enter the building.

Elevators

The elevators in Morgridge Hall are located near the center staircase on most floors. Take the elevator to the second floor to access the School of CDIS Library. The elevators have identifiable grey textured walls that depict the geographical features of Madison, WI and the surrounding areas.

Parking & Transportation

  • The closest parking ramp is the Engineering Drive Ramp (Lot 17). Parking is paid and an accessibility permit or plates are required to park in a handicap parking spot.

Emergency / Evacuation Procedures

  • When evacuating the building in an emergency, use the two stairwells closest to the School of CDIS Library. The main stairwell is located in front of the info desk and the secondary stairwell is next to the desk and marked with a green Exit sign.
  • During an emergency evacuation disabled building occupants needing assistance should locate the elevators and use the emergency phone to call for assistance.

Main Commons area:

  • The main area has a mix of cushioned rolling office chairs and plastic desk chairs 2-4 per table
  • Medium study tables (seating up to 4): 15
  • Small study tables (seating up to two): 4
  • High-top tables: 2
  • High-top chairs: 8 (4 per table)
  • Large chairs with adjustable writing surface and desk lamp: 4
  • Large chairs with cubicle style “walls” and adjustable writing surface: 2

Outside of 2nd floor classrooms:

  • Large high top study tables (seating up to 6): 4
  • High top chairs: 24
  • Medium circular study tables (seating up to 5): 3
  • Cushioned armless chairs: 12

Reservable Study Rooms and Spaces

Quiet Spaces

The School of CDIS Library is not a designated quiet library, but some quieter areas of the space include the study rooms, Wellness Rooms, and Designated Quiet Study Rooms.

Wellness rooms are available to building residents and are located on floors 4-7 in the hallways behind the bathrooms. These operate on a first come first serve basis and can be used for meditation, prayer, sensory regulation, and privacy needs.

Distraction-free Spaces

The CDIS Library does not have designated distraction-free spaces. Patrons seeking distraction-free spaces should ask Service Desk staff about available spaces.

Restrooms

  • Most floors of Morgridge have three restrooms including two large multi-stall restrooms and one single stall gender neutral/accessible restroom.
  • On most floors these restrooms are locatable by looking for the decorative tile mosaics on the outside.

Lactation and Baby Changing Space

  • A public lactation room is available on the basement/garden level of Morgridge Hall in room B2537. This space operates on a first-come, first-served basis and does not require a reservation. If the room is in use and additional space is needed, please visit the information desk in the Rebecca M. Blank Student Commons on Floor 2, call the information desk at 608-262-4569, or email commons@cdis.wisc.edu for assistance.
  • Room B2537 features:
    • Lockable from inside
    • Adjustable lighting
    • Chair, table, and outlet
    • Mini fridge and sink in the room
    • Available whenever the building is open
  • Additional lactation rooms are available on floors 4, 6, and 7 of Morgridge Hall. These are located in the staff hallways behind the restrooms. Faculty, staff, and CDIS students who need access to these rooms may request keycard access by contacting the key card access administrator, Gigi Mitchell

Inaccessible Spaces

  • Some study room and classroom doors are heavy and may be difficult to open. Please see staff at the information desk for assistance.
  • Some rooms including the Student Organization Lounge (room 2556) are key-card access only but don’t have automatic door buttons, please see information desk staff for assistance.

Lighting

  • Most spaces in the CDIS Library (including the classrooms/computer labs) are lit by motion-activated lights.
  • Most study rooms have dimmable lights, these controls are generally located on the wall near the door. In most study rooms pressing and holding the top button will raise the brightness and pressing and holding the lower button will dim them.
  • Some lights in the building unpredictably dim/brighten. Administration is aware and working on addressing the issue.

Technology

The CDIS Library has no computer labs. Currently we check out laptops.

Services

Accessing Materials and Services

The front of circulation desk is low to the ground, making it accessible for most people, including those using mobility devices. There is a place for wheelchair users to be able to roll up to the desk.
