Congratulations to all of our 2016 graduates!

May 2, 2016

All SLIS students (graduating or not), faculty and staff are invited to attend SLIS’s very own graduation celebration on Sunday, May 15.  The ceremony, which honors graduates from December 2015, May and August 2016, will be held in the Memorial Union Theater.  Family and friends are welcome to attend.  Tickets are not required, and there is no limit to the number of guests you may bring.

The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last about an hour and a half.  Graduates should arrive by 9:00 for a class photo.  Cake and refreshments will be served in our SLIS Library immediately following the ceremony.  Festivities will end around 12:30 PM.  Parking on campus is available on a first-come, first-served basis.  All campus lots will be free of charge from noon on Friday, May 13 through 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15.

The SLIS graduation celebration was born of students’ desire to have a memorable send-off while maintaining a pleasant mixture of formal and friendly festivities. The ceremony includes honoring those students who have won awards, the naming of a Distinguished Alumna/us—this year awarded to Sari Feldman, ALA President and Executive Director of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, Parma, Ohio, and a brief talk by a member of the SLIS instructional faculty; this year’s speaker will be SLIS’s own Professor Cat Smith, sending off SLIS graduates with a talk that will no doubt be memorable!  Doctoral graduates are hooded by their dissertation adviser and each master’s graduate is invited to the stage for individual recognition.
