Matt Hannah, Director

Matt is an associate professor of digital studies in the Department of Communication Arts. He earned his PhD from the Department of English at University of Oregon. He was an Andrew Mellon postdoc at the University of Iowa’s Obermann Center for Advanced Studies from 2016-2018, where he worked on the Digital Bridges for Humanistic Inquiry project. His research examines the role of digital platforms in facilitating the spread of conspiracy theories and the growth of online extremism. In 2022, he was a Fulbright Specialist in Digital Humanities to Morocco.

Anna Haensch, Associate Director

Anna is an associate professor in the Data Science Institute. She holds a PhD in mathematics, and her research interests are in science and technology policy, especially the use of artificial intelligence in the public sector and critical infrastructure. Her recent work spans applications of artificial intelligence and statistical machine learning across social and complex systems, energy infrastructure, and law enforcement, with the goal of fairness, safety, and equity.

Cameron Cook, Head of Research Data & Digital Scholarship Strategy

Cameron is the Chair of Research Data Services, manager of MINDS@UW – UW’s open access institutional repository, and also supports digital scholarship efforts. Her interests include openness, research support infrastructure for research data & digital scholarship, data information literacy and ethics, digital humanities, and scholarly communication. She can help you share and archive your data to comply with funding agency or publisher requirements, create a data management plan, share your work through our repository, and connect you to research data and digital scholarship support on campus.

Brady Krien, Digital Humanities Coordinator

Brady holds a Ph.D. in English and an M.A. in Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa. As the Digital Humanities Librarian, he leverages his background in computational research—including natural language processing and machine learning—to help scholars navigate the full lifecycle of digital projects. At the Digital Scholarship Hub, he designs and leads interactive training in digital tools and methods and offers individual consultations to students and faculty. Book a consultation with him.

Jennifer Patiño, Digital Scholarship Coordinator

Jennifer is a member of the Research Data, Public Access, and Digital Scholarship team, which supports data curation, public access compliance, and digital research workflows. She provides research consultation and instruction in research data management and sharing, metadata and discoverability, and digital humanities platforms and tools. She is a consultant for UW-Madison Research Data Services and is certified as an instructor for HathiTrust and the Carpentries.
