The Open Book Collection exists to meet your extracurricular reading, viewing, and gaming interests. Find browsable sections such as Fiction, Mystery Fiction, Graphic Novels, Videos and more. The collection is located in Room 1250, on the east side of the first floor of College Library, adjacent to The Open Book Cafe.
In keeping with the informal nature of the Open Book Collection, books are usually purchased in paperback editions. Topics include, but are not limited to sports, hobbies and crafts, cooking and gardening, travel, science fiction, mysteries, graphic novels and popular fiction. Digital audio books are also featured here.
College Library maintains a general selection of popular magazines in the Open Book Collection. There are currently over eighty titles all available to browse, such as: Bicycling, Cosmopolitan, Curve, Thrasher, and Mother Jones. Popular magazines that complement College Library’s special Ethnic Studies Collection are also available in Open Book.
The library retains issues from the previous twelve months. As of April 20, 2015, magazines are no longer checked out to patrons; the collection is available for reading enjoyment inside the library.

College Library collects popular movies in the Open Book collection. These DVDs are available to be checked out for two weeks.

Other College Library collections include feature-films, the complete BBC series of Shakespeare’s works, some complete television series, and a wide variety of documentaries. These items can be checked out for various loan periods, usually longer than videos in the Open Book collection. Most of these items are in DVD format, but some are VHS. DVD and VHS players are available to view videos at College Library.

College Library owns over a thousand music CDs from a wide variety of genres. The collection includes work from AFI to Zap Mama, Beethoven to Beirut, and everything in between. CDs can be checked out by students for 28 days and can be renewed twice. Organized by artist, this collection is fairly easy to browse and gets significant use.

College Library collects video games for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. There are over 300 games in our collection, including The Last of Us, Grand Theft Auto 5, Assassin’s Creed, Tomb Raider, and more. Games are available in the Open Book collection on the first floor and may be checked out for two weeks.
