Honoring Excellence-in-Service

December 4, 2025

College Library is delighted to announce the recipients of the Fall 2025 Excellence-in-Service Awards. These awards honor student assistants who have demonstrated outstanding customer service, exemplary working relationships, high productivity, creativity, initiative, and have helped create a welcoming learning and research environment at the library.

This year, we are proud to recognize Amelia Froemming and Sarah Perkins for their exceptional contributions.

Amelia Froemming is a standout member of the End-User Computing team in the Library Technology Group (LTG). According to one of her supervisors, “Amelia has been instrumental in ensuring that College Library—and all campus library locations—receive reliable, high-quality technical support. She is a talented and dedicated problem-solver whose impact on our library community cannot be overstated. She frequently takes the initiative to research potential improvements for our public-facing computers, always looking for ways to improve the experience for our campus community.” Another EUC staff member noted, “Amelia has emerged as a strong leader and mentor within our team, earning the trust and respect of both her peers and full-time staff. Her ability to collaborate, teach, and support her colleagues has reinforced a culture of teamwork and excellence within our team. Beyond her technical expertise, Amelia brings a strong work ethic, making her a reliable and valued team member. Her proactive nature and ability to anticipate challenges before they arise have helped prevent numerous issues, demonstrating her strong problem-solving skills and forward-thinking approach.” Another nominator reported, with just a hint of envy, “Amelia always seems like she has all of the background IT information and how to apply it in every situation.” College Library would like to thank Amelia for all of her efforts on behalf of her unit and the UW-Madison Libraries.

Sarah Perkins, who graduates this December, has, for the past two years, held a position that is more out of public view than most. According to her supervisor, “Sarah has been a valuable member of the collection management team since Fall 2023. Her ability to manage multiple projects and keep up with changes in workflow, user interfaces, staffing changes, and priorities is impressive and integral in keeping things running smoothly. Although the maintenance and processing of our collections often happens behind the scenes, it is vital to undergraduate library services.” Her dedication to all aspects of her position—whether pulling books for displays, maintaining complex spreadsheets, or completing the essential work that keeps our collections accurate and accessible—has a direct and meaningful impact on undergraduate library services. Sarah has also taken on special assignments with remarkable independence and care. For example, during the large-scale relocation of the College Library DVD collection to the Verona Shelving Facility, she completed the time-intensive record verification process that allowed the materials to become available to patrons much more quickly. The nominator also observed, “Sarah makes my job much easier because I trust her to show up ready to tackle whatever project is on deck for that day. She will ask questions to ensure that the work is completed correctly, and she is able to independently make decisions about processes to find the balance between accuracy and efficiency.” Congratulations, Sarah, on receiving this acknowledgement of your many accomplishments.

College Library is dedicated to supporting the academic and research needs of its students, faculty, and staff. With a wide range of resources and services, the library strives to create an environment that fosters learning, discovery, and collaboration. The Excellence-in-Service Awards highlight the invaluable contributions of student assistants to the library’s mission. Their commitment to excellence sets a high standard for future student employees and underscores the importance of service in the academic community.

We congratulate Sarah and Amelia and thank all of our student assistants for their outstanding service and dedication to the patrons of College Library.
