Lot 6 Construction

June 28, 2025

College Library was notified in January of this year that the layer of concrete between upper and lower parking in Lot 6 (beneath HC White Hall) is in need of remediation and that the work would take place over three phases from May through October of 2025. During this time, visitor access to parking stalls will be severely curtailed, although two of the three phases will retain ADA access to the central building elevator.

For library patrons the impact is more sonic, with nearly continuous drilling and/or jack-hammering during the early weeks of each phase of construction. Phase I was completed between May 19 through June 20. Phase II, which began on June 23 and will continue through the end of July, has moved its focus to the concrete beneath the site’s courtyard. Given its more central location, the noise of the drilling is noticeably louder and affects more library spaces. Construction work typically begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues until 4:30 p.m. Those studying in College Library are encouraged to use noise-cancelling headphones or ear-buds during the day. At the moment, work does not continue over the weekend, but that may change as the project nears completion.

Library users may wish to patronize other campus libraries during this construction cycle. We recommend Memorial Library, which offers similar hours during the summer months. Please visit the Locations tab on the Libraries website to view all of the options. For more detailed information on campus parking, see the Transportation Services website.
