Finals Time!

April 29, 2019

College Library has a long tradition of providing stress-relief activities during the last few weeks of the semester. The library is open 24/7 beginning April 29 and staff are committed to ensuring that library users have the chance to reduce anxiety as often as possible. For example, the therapy canines of Dogs on Call, will return to College Library on Monday, May 6. And this year we are working with even more campus partners to ensure that students achieve their study goals while remaining healthy, less-stressed, and, admittedly, slightly over-caffeinated.

Among the events planned are:

The Writing Center’s Midnight Madness · Sunday, April 28, from 6 pm to 1 am
There will be writing tutorials for undergraduate students with a staff of 7 Writing Center TAs, and 42 half-hour appointments. As always, it’s first come, first served in the library’s 1st floor center area, but if you’re working on papers, cover letters, résumés, etc., it’s your last chance to get help this semester. Did we mention the free snacks? #UWMidnightMadness

Free (Plain) Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate · Friday, May 3, from 7 pm to 12:30 am
Open Book Café and the Wisconsin Union once again provide free hot beverages for students getting a head-start on Study Day.

GUTS Study Day · Saturday, May 4, from 10 am to 5 pm
Tutors from the Greater University Tutoring Service will be on hand (along with free coffee & food for those receiving help) in the 1st floor center of the library. Get some last minute study advice on Star Wars Day before exams begin.

Button-Making at the Library · Sunday, May 5, all day
Visitors will be able to make a 1″ button with supplies provided by the library. Design your own or choose one of our preprinted options featuring either Bucky Badger or Helen C. White. A great way to show your affiliation.

Dogs on Call · Monday, May 6, from 4 pm to 6 pm
Stop by for a little canine therapy with Izzy the Lab and her friends at Dogs on Call. Canines and their handlers will be stationed around the courtyard (weather permitting) and the first floor of the library for those in need of a puppy cuddle.

Healthy Snacks from UHS · Tuesday, May 7, while supplies last
Look for a variety of healthy treats (nuts, fruit, granola, and more) courtesy of University Health Services at all of the library’s info desks and ensure you’re powering your brain with nutritious energy.

White Board Queries · Wednesday, May 8, all day
Add your thoughts to the question of the day on the large white board in the 1st floor of the library. It’s a great way to take a study break and enjoy a chuckle or two.

In addition, the Division of Student Life is partnering with UW Transportation Services and College Library to provide a shuttle service that will run between the library and University Residence Halls to offer students 24 hours of safe transportation from May 5 through the morning of May 10th. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes on the half hour from midnight through 6:00 a.m. This service will supplement and combine with other late travel options such as SAFEwalk and bus Routes 81 and 82, which aren’t available all night.

Every ½ hour the bus will collect students heading home from in front of Helen C. White Hall and deliver them to any of following residence hall stops: Waters, the Porter Boathouse, Sullivan, Sellery, and Chadbourne.

Finally, College Library will set out coloring pages and puzzles during finals week and, if you need a longer break, we encourage you to check out the Study Break room in the vending area off of Open Book, Room 1250. College Library would like to thank its many campus partners for providing this valuable help and stress relief during finals.
