Ceramics Exhibition in Open Book

April 9, 2019

Beginning Monday, April 8, College Library is hosting an exhibition of ceramics by Abby Louise Showers, a BFA student at UW-Madison. The exhibition, entitled In You Go, features lidded jars constructed around three basic themes: spice, potpourri, and personal. Abby used a variety of techniques to create these unique vessels including slab building, wheel throwing, slip trailing, and sculpting. Some of the jars are finished with glazes, while others feature acrylic paint decoration.

According to Abby, she has “always had an odd interest in what jars are intended to hold and a curiosity about what may be inside them.” She describes the spice and potpourri jars as “straight-forward with clear intentions,” while the personalized jars embody “endless possibilities.”

The works are featured on shelves in the Career & Student Success Collection in Open Book, Room 1250, at College Library. The artist will be on hand on Wednesday, April 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to discuss her work. The display continues through Monday, April 15.
