Finals Prep

December 10, 2017

College Library has a long tradition of providing stress-relief activities during the last few weeks of the semester. The library is open 24/7 beginning December 4 and staff are committed to ensuring that library users have the chance to reduce anxiety as often as possible. For example, the therapy canines of Dogs on Call, will return to College Library on Monday, Dec. 18. And this year we are working with even more campus partners to ensure that students achieve their study goals while remaining healthy, less-stressed, and, admittedly, slightly over-caffeinated.

Among the events planned are:

Sorry It’s Monday: Self-Care with PAVE · Monday, December 4, from 6 pm to 8 pm
College Library’s Open Book, Room 1250, will host several different calming activities and students are invited to spend as little or as much time as they would like participating in self-care activities. Among the options are: coloring, bracelet-making, a reflection space, button-making, journaling, “Drop a Worry,” and making your own slime and/or stress balls.

The Writing Center’s Midnight Madness · Sunday, December 10, from 6 pm to 1 am
In conjunction with the 5th International Write-In, there will be writing tutorials for undergraduate students with a staff of 7 Writing Center TAs, and 42 half-hour appointments. As always, it’s first come, first served in the library’s 1st floor center area, but if you’re working on papers, cover letters, résumés, etc., it’s your last chance to get help this semester. Did we mention the free coffee? #IntlWriteIn2017

Free (Plain) Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate · Wednesday, December 13, from 7 pm to 12:30 am
Open Book Café and the Wisconsin Union once again provide free hot beverages for students getting a head-start on Study Day.

GUTS Study Day · Thursday, December 14, from 11 am to 7 pm
Tutors from the Greater University Tutoring Service will be on hand (along with free food – bagels or pizzas – for those receiving help) in the 1st floor center of the library. Get some last minute study advice before exams begin.

Healthy Snacks from UHS · Friday, December 15, while supplies last
Look for a variety of healthy treats (nuts, fruit, granola, and more) courtesy of University Health Services at all of the library’s info desks and ensure you’re powering your brain with nutritious energy.

Dogs on Call · Monday, December 18, from 4 pm to 6 pm
Stop by for a little canine therapy with some of our favorite members of Dogs on Call. They will be stationed around the first floor of the library and happy to indulge in a few puppy cuddles. A great stress reliever!

Button-Making at the Library · Tuesday, December 19, all day
Visitors will be able to make a 1″ button with supplies provided by the library. Design your own or choose one of our preprinted options featuring either Bucky Badger or Helen C. White. A great way to show your affiliation.

In addition, College Library will set out coloring pages and puzzles during finals week and, if you need a longer break, we encourage you to check out the Study Break room in the vending area off of Open Book, Room 1250. There you can cast video on the large monitor and enjoy a variety of streaming options from Netflix, YouTube, etc.

College Library would like to thank its many campus partners for providing this valuable help and stress relief during finals. All we can say is “Go Badgers!”
