Camp Out to Study Strong!

May 15, 2014
Every finals season we hear students say that they’re “camping out at the library” until exams are over.  So, to make this semester’s camping adventure a little more fun, we’re offering several camping-themed events to help students #studystrong. Together with campus partners, College Library hopes to bring a little fun into an otherwise stress-filled week with the following schedule of events:

Thursday, May 8: Create your own “Merit Badge(r)” with coloring pages that celebrate such milestones as ’24 Hours in the Library’ and ‘Intravenous Coffee Ingestion.’ Or, design your own merit badge and share with others by posting it in the library. Available all week, 1st Floor Center.

Friday, May 9: Celebrate the last day of classes with a “Caffeinated Camp Out” at
Open Book Cafe! Get free regular coffee, tea or hot chocolate, courtesy of the Wisconsin Union, from 7pm to 2am.  Room 1250.
Saturday, May 10: “Get Campy” – from 10 am until 10 pm, GUTS tutors are available on study day to help with all your last-minute tutoring needs. They’ll have free coffee and treats for those receiving assistance. Sponsored by ASM and the Division of Student Life.  1st Floor Student Services Area.
Also, UW Communications will be on hand to collect scary finals stories from their tent in Open Book. Share your tale of horror (or inspiration) in person and online – hashtag #collegecampout. Room 1250.

Sunday, May 11: “Postcards from Camp” – It’s Mother’s Day and what mom doesn’t appreciate a heartfelt postcard from Camp College.  Pick up a blank UW Libraries postcard, write home, and give it back – the library will stamp and mail it for you!  While supplies last, 1st Floor Center.

Monday, May 12: “Merit Button Monday” – want a more portable merit badge to showcase your #studystrong accomplishments?  Stop by our button-making station and create one! 1st Floor Center.

Tuesday, May 13: “Whiteboard Arts & Crafts” – every camp needs mandatory creativity.  On any of the many white boards around College Library feel free to draw, calculate, doodle, give shout-outs, or just be silly. We’ll post images on our new Tumblr feed devoted to the white boards at the library: http://collegelibrary.tumblr.com/submit

Also, “Pitch a Pup Tent” with a library visit from the therapy canines of Dogs on Call. 4-6 pm. Courtyard and 1st Floor Center.
Wednesday, May 14: “Care Packages from the Library” with free healthy snacks, courtesy of University Health Services, and Emergen-C at the library’s service desks.  While supplies last.
In addition to coloring pages and merit badges, there will also be a Rainbow Loom and supplies in the 1st floor “living room” to provide a camp-like distraction all week long.
