College Library Construction Crew: Building Study Strong!

Between the construction work on the Memorial Union and road repairs on Park Street, it’s been challenging for our users to even make it to College Library this semester.  Turning a negative into a positive has always been our ethos, however, so this semester our finals theme pays homage to the hard work that goes into any construction project, including #studystrong!  Together with campus partners, we bring a little fun into an otherwise anxiety-filled week of exams and final projects with the following schedule of events:

Friday, May 10th: “Building Study Strong” with LEGOs, Jenga and “construction cranes”! Take a moment to build something with colorful LEGO pieces, erect the tallest tower you can with Jenga blocks, or construct an origami paper crane to help decorate the library.  Then post a photo on College Library’s new Instagram account [college_library] or use the hashtag #studystrong to share your creativity with others!  While supplies last, 1st Floor Center.

Also on Friday, from 7pm to 2am “Build Your Caffeine Level” with Open Book Cafe’s coffee give-away! Get free regular coffee, tea or hot chocolate, courtesy of the Wisconsin Union. Room 1250.  

Saturday, May 11th: “Build a Study Day” From noon until midnight, GUTS tutors are available on study day to help with all your last-minute tutoring needs. They’ll have free coffee and treats for those receiving assistance. Sponsored by ASM and the Division of Student Life.  1st Floor Student Services Area.

Sunday, May 12th: “Build a Better Bond” It’s Mother’s Day and what better way to show your parents your love than by proving you’re in the library and studying strong for final exams.  Pick up a free postcard (in one of four designs), construct your heartfelt message, return it to the Info Desk, and we will stamp and mail it for you!  While supplies last, 1st Floor Center.

Monday, May 13th: “Build a Button” with College Library’s new button-maker.  Construct your own design or use one of ours and wear your 2013 finals memento with pride.  1st Floor Center.
Also, “Build a Four-Legged Friendship” with the therapy canines from Dogs on Call.  The pups will build goodwill with a visit to the library from 4-7 pm today. Courtyard and 1st Floor Center.

Tuesday, May 14 – “Build a Game Addiction” with Tetris on the large monitor in College Library’s “living room.”  Challenge your friends or aim for your personal best by creating a perfect construct of Tetriminos. 1st Floor Center
Wednesday, May 15: “Build Your Energy/Immune System” Free candy and Emergen-C will be given out at the library’s service desks. Get a little boost of sugar to help you “study strong.” While supplies last.
Thursday, May 16: “Build Badger Blessings” with chalked shout-outs in the courtyard and/or white-board messages in the library. Encourage others to #studystrong this exam period and show your Badger support to those graduating this semester.
