Mayan-Themed Finals Events!

December 19, 2012

Many have speculated that the world will end with the completion of the Mayan Long Count calendar on December 21, 2012. Rather than counting on the apocalypse to get you out of final exams, College Library recommends taking the opportunity to study strong. With a tongue-in-cheek celebration of the “end times,” the library and its campus partners hope to bring a little fun into an otherwise anxiety-filled week of exams and final projects with the following schedule of events:

“What if they’re wrong? #studystrong”

Thursday, December 13: “It’s the end of the Mayan calendar and I feel fine” – check out the oversize Mayan calendar and color in a section. Or, consult our handy guide to determine your Mayan astrological sign and color your individual sign. We will post the completed jaguars, owls, lizards, and more, at or near the desk on 1st floor. Coloring pages will be available throughout the week on 1st Floor Center.

Friday, December 14: “It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel like caffeine” – Open Book Café is once again offering free coffee, tea or hot chocolate from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the last day of classes. Courtesy of the Wisconsin Union in Room 1250.

Saturday, December 15: “What if I’m wrong? GUTS will help me study strong” – From noon until midnight, GUTS tutors are available on study day to help with all your last-minute tutoring needs. They’ll have free coffee and treats for those receiving assistance. Sponsored by ASM and the Division of Student Life. 1st Floor Student Services Area.

Sunday, December 16: “It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel like making a bucket list” – what do you want to accomplish before you kick the bucket? Take a moment to jot down some of your aspirations (if you survive final exams). We’ll post the most creative and/or entertaining items on our Facebook page and Twitter. Those who submit their bucket list will receive a calendar magnet for 2013. See, we’re optimistic! 1st Floor Center.

Monday, December 17: “It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel like hugging a puppy” – once again the therapy-inclined canines of Dogs on Call will be on hand to provide a little study relief. From 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in 1st Floor Center.

Tuesday, December 18: “It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel like candy” – fortify yourself with Lifesavers (and other) candy or a packet of Emergen-C. While supplies last. All public service desks.

Wednesday, December 19: “It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel like having my picture taken!” – Using the Mayan calendar as a colorful back-drop, take a moment to record your presence here on planet Earth while there’s still time. From 12 to 5 p.m. and by request. 1st Floor Center.

In addition, Mayan-themed and other jigsaw puzzles will be out in 1st Floor Center for a little brain break. Everyone’s favorite morale booster, the Rose Bowl-bound Bucky Badger, is likely to make an appearance as well! See the Website for more information.
