President’s Visit Affects College Library

October 4, 2012

Due to the close proximity of the President’s speech on Bascom Hill, there will be no entry or exit to the HC White Hall between 2:30-3 p.m. and again at 4:15-4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4.  There are no exceptions. Patrons and employees wanting to enter or exit should do so before and after those two time blocks.  During this time, the library will be fully operational – patrons may use our collections, equipment, café, etc., they just won’t be able to enter or exit the building.

With the exception of the afternoon times, the building will remain open and all services of the library are available.  However, access to Helen C. White will be limited to pedestrian traffic only from 7am to 6pm today. Pedestrian access will only be available from the Lake Shore path and via the construction walkway on Langdon Street.  Bicycle riders are not considered pedestrians and bike traffic is also restricted.  Bicycles will be permitted as far as Memorial Union from the east and as far as the Lakeshore Residences (Tripp, etc.) along the Lake Shore path from the west.

Finally, no parking will be allowed in HC White’s Lot 6 parking lot from midnight until 6:00pm. For complete details on building access, please see the UW’s information page
