University of Wisconsin students, staff, and faculty must present a valid UW ID card in order to check out library materials at the Physics Library Circulation Desk. All other patrons must present either an annual fee card, a courtesy card, or runner card obtained from Memorial Library.

Loan Periods

To see detailed loan period information, click here.

There is no limit to the number of items that UW-Madison patrons can check out. Some limits (for UW System items) apply.

Lost Items & Fines

Fines on library items may be paid in person at Memorial Library, online, by phone, or by mail. More information is available on the Libraries’ Fines and Holds page. Please note that the AMP Library cannot accept payments for any fines.

Lost Items

If the material is not located, the minimum replacement charge is $100.00. If the library material is returned after the replacement charge has been assessed, the replacement charge will be cancelled or refunded. In certain instances, a new replacement copy of the lost item may be accepted instead of the replacement charge.

Appeals

Any library fine may be appealed. To appeal a fine, use the Appeal of Library Charges form.

Returning Items

Returning items to the AMP Library
The AMP Library has two book drops –  outside near the entrance or inside at the Circulation/Reserves desk. Reserve items checked out from AMP must be returned to the AMP Circulation Desk.

Returning items to other libraries
Most AMP Library items may be returned to any campus library participating in Open Return. For a list of libraries, consult the Locations list and filter by Open Return.
