Special Collections is located on the 9th floor of Memorial Library, generally accessible using elevator #5 (marked “Special Collections | South Stacks elevator”).

The reading room and exhibit area are generally open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  • Exhibit area (976 Memorial Library). Our exhibits change every four-six months.
  • Reading room (986 Memorial Library). Most of our holdings, which are shelved in closed, climate-controlled vaults, will be brought to readers in our supervised reading room. The reading room also contains a considerable reference collection available for browsing. None of our collections circulate. The reading room is reserved for consulting Special Collections holdings.
  • Special Collections desk (980 Memorial Library). Please register at the desk and request materials there before taking a seat in the reading room.
  • Lockers (adjacent to the Special Collections desk). Please use lockers for your possessions while using Special Collections materials in our reading room or seminar room. Keys are available on the counter of the Special Collections desk (980 Memorial Library).
  • Seminar room (984 Memorial Library). Class sessions using Special Collections materials and other special events take place in the seminar room by prior arrangement.
