Instructions to search and utilize the Limnology Library Collections

How to use the UW-Madison online catalog to find books and articles

The university has many resources and tutorials for how to find books and articles in the UW-Madison library system, including books and articles you can request through inter-library loan. If you ever have trouble finding a specific item, please reach out to the limnology librarian or any library on campus to help find what you are looking for.

Searching the Trout Lake Collection

Text instructions for using the online catalog to search the Trout Lake Collection

  1. Starting from the UW-Madison Libraries’ homepage, choose “Catalog” from the drop-down menu.
  2. Select “Advanced Search” on the left-hand corner under the Catalog search box.
  3. On the right side of the paper under Limit your Search select “locations”
  4. Select “UW Madison”
  5. Scroll down and select “Limnology Library”
  6. From the drop down menu select the box for “Trout Lake Collection”
  7. Search then within the advanced search and the catalog will only show materials at Trout Lake Station

Searching Zotero

Center for Limnology Zotero Digital Collection

The Limnology Library holds a digital repository of research published by or affiliated with the Center for Limnology. Zotero also holds articles on research conducted on southwestern or northern WI waters, or significant developments in the field of limnology. The Digital Repository held in Zotero is available publicly for searching but access to article PDFs is restricted (by IP address) to users on Hasler Lab and Trout Lake Station networks.

How to Search

    1. Start from the Limnology Library Home Page
    2. Under CFL Publications and Research, select “Center For Limnology Zotero Digital Collection”
    3. In the top right corner, there is a search box that allows you to search multiple ways
    4. Search using publication year, author, and title
    5. In the bottom left corner there are librarian-maintained tags that, when selected, will limit the articles:
      • A red dot for Trout Lake Station
      • A blue dot for LTER-NTL
