This service is intended primarily for current students, faculty and staff of UW-Madison. Anyone may use the service, but we can only provide limited assistance to those outside the campus community.

What are the Ask a Librarian Chat and Text Hours?

Summer Hours (May 7 – September 7)

  • Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Note: Library staff may be online at other times to take your questions.

Are session transcripts saved?

Yes, transcripts are saved and used by UW-Madison librarians in order to improve our services to you.

What are the Ask a Librarian Phone Hours?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, if you call our general assistance phone line, you will most likely be asked to leave a voicemail message.  We will receive your voicemail message via email (as a voice file attachment) and will respond as soon as we’re able.
