This service is intended primarily for current students, faculty and staff of UW-Madison. Anyone may use the service, but we can only provide limited assistance to those outside the campus community.

What are the Ask a Librarian Chat and Text Hours?

Spring Hours (February 20 – May 13)

  • Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: Closed
  • Sunday: 2 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Note: Library staff may be online at other times to take your questions.

Are session transcripts saved?

Yes, transcripts are saved and used by UW-Madison librarians in order to improve our services to you.

What are the Ask a Librarian Phone Hours?

  • Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

After-hours callers are prompted to leave a voicemail. We will receive your voicemail message via email (as a voice file attachment) and will respond as soon as we’re able.
