This bibliography is number 108e in the series “Bibliographies in Gender and Women’s Studies,” published by the University of Wisconsin System Office of the Gender and Women’s Studies Librarian. It was developed as part of “Rooted in Justice: Fifty Years of Feminist Scholarship and Community Engagement,” a set of bibliographies supporting the 2026 UW System Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium Spring Conference.
Gender and women’s studies has always aspired to be an intersectional discipline, engaging critically with race, ability, and other axes of identity to address complex systems of power and oppression. While this narrative has taken time to fully emerge, the field now embraces critical conversations that include queer and sexuality studies, trans and gender diverse studies, and decolonial and Indigenous feminisms with global perspectives. This bibliography includes resources on these and other emerging branches of gender and women’s studies. It includes voices and perspectives historically marginalized within academia, as well as cutting-edge research, hot topics, predictions, hopes, and dreams for what new areas will develop. We examine how new technologies, cuts in federal funding, and changes in higher education will affect gender and women’s studies and related disciplines. Resources imagine the field’s evolution in the coming years and explore what new possibilities might emerge from its transformative potential.
