Since 2008, hundreds of universities in the U.S. and around the world have adopted some type of open access policy.
Done well, these policies:
- maximize authors’ rights to reuse their own articles and
- encourage broad public access to research results
while ensuring that publishers:
- have the rights they need to make articles available and
- are adequately compensated for their contributions.
In recent years, faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have discussed adoption of an open access policy and this site is designed as a resource for those interested in better understanding these types of policies and their implications.
