General Information

We provide book loans and scanning services to libraries.

If you are an academic, public or special library, we accept either OCLC requests to the symbol "GZM" or webform requests (if OCLC is not an option for your institution). If your institution needs a webform login, please contact our staff at GZMILL@library.wisc.edu and we will gladly set you up after you provide mailing information about your library.

If you are an individual who needs materials from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's collections, please place an Interlibrary Loan request at any U.S. or overseas library to which you have access. The University can only accept requests from individuals that have come through a library.

If your business or industry has no library or information service, please consult UW-Madison Information Services for Businesses and Industries.

Make a Payment by Credit Card

Cancellation Policy

If a participant cancels less than seven working days prior to the date of an event, no refund can be issued. A substitute may be sent in the place of the original registrant, but the individual participant or department is responsible for coordinating and communicating this to the substitute.

Privacy Statement

The General Library System (GZM) does not sell, rent trade or distribute any personally identifiable information obtained from clients to a third party, except in cooperation with government agencies or as required by law. Information collected by GZM is used for administrative and operational purposes of our services.

Doing Business

Your credit card statement will reflect the charge for service from General Library System/GZM.

IFM or invoice with material. (What is IFM?)

Payment

Accept checks, money orders (US only), Visa or Mastercard for invoices. If you cannot pay with a check or money order, we will accept IFLA vouchers. IBAN payments and postal vouchers not accepted.

UPS Ground/Airmail for loans; 1st class, fax, and Odyssey or Article Exchange for articles.

Special Services

PhD Dissertations

We will loan PhD dissertations (1923-present) for $20 IFM or $20 Invoiced. (International libraries: fee does not include postage costs.) Copies are available from UMI (1955-present). We will scan older dissertations for the same charge as masters theses.

Masters Theses

We cannot loan masters theses. We will scan masters theses in their entirety and send a file in PDF format. We charge $28 IFM or $28 invoiced for this service.

Rush Service

The University of Wisconsin-Madison currently does not offer rush service. We hope to reinstate this service in the near future.

Digitization on Demand

The University of Wisconsin-Madison no longer offers the Digitization on Demand service. We hope to reinstate this service in the near future.

Microfilm to Microfilm Copies

Please contact Andrea Rolich of our Preservation Department at anrolich@library.wisc.edu or 608-262-0897 to purchase microfilm copies.

Reciprocity

UW-Madison has reciprocal relationships with CIC (Committee on Institutional Cooperation) libraries, Stanford, the Library of Congress, Iowa State Library, and the Smithsonian Institution.
