Canadian Major Dailies (ProQuest)
This is the core of Canadian Newsstand. Included are national and leading regional papers such as National Post, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Montreal Gazette, Ottawa Citizen, Regina Leader Post, Vancouver Sun and the Victoria Times-Colonist.

Formerly known as ReferenceUSA, Data Axle Reference Solutions contains directory information on U.S. and Canadian business, health care, and residential listings. Search by company name, geographic area, business type, SIC code, yellow page listing, revenue, location, number of employees or any combination of the above. In addition to address and phone number, each entry includes officer names and titles, corporate affiliation, business type and size of yellow page advertising. Toll free and fax numbers are given for some companies.

Provides simple and refined searching of the Data-Planet repository of standardized and structured statistical data. The Economist: Historical Archive (Cengage Learning)

EDGAR (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission)
All companies, foreign and domestic, are required to file registration statements, periodic reports, and other forms electronically through EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval). Anyone can access and download this information for free.

Edison Research
The Resources page offers free downloads of all of Edison’s publicly-available research including The Infinite Dial, America’s longest running research series measuring digital platforms and their impact on the media landscape. Fortune Magazine Archive (EBSCO)
Fortune Magazine Archive provides a cover-to-cover format of that long running magazine from February 1930 through December 2000. Fortune Magazine was published monthly by Time Inc., the magazine sought to provide news and analysis of both American and, later international business, economics, technology, and industry. Each issue featured color illustrations and photographs, as well as high-quality feature articles. Articles and cover pages are fully indexed and advertisements are individually identified ensuring researchers and readers can quickly and accurately the information they seek.

Includes over 900 reports on indirect purchasing lines and products. IMF eLibrary Data (International Monetary Fund)
Contains a range of time series data on IMF lending, exchange rates, and other economic and financial indicators including International Financial Statistcs (IFS) since 1948. Available indicators normally include a country’s exchange rate, Fund position, international liquidity, monetary statistics, interest rates, prices, production, labor, international transactions, government accounts, national accounts, and population. International Newsstream (ProQuest)
International Newsstream provides the most recent news content outside of the US and Canada, with archives which stretch back decades featuring newspapers, newswires, and news sites in active full-text format. ProQuest International Newsstream provides information from more than 660 of the world’s top newspapers, including The Times (London), The Bangkok Post, El Norte, Financial Times, The Guardian, Jerusalem Post, South China Morning Post, The Daily Telegraph, Asian Wall Street Journal, and the BBC Monitoring series of publications.

These databases features thousands of analyst reports covering over 3,000 global companies and all industries. Derived from Morgan Markets – which is J.P. Morgan’s exclusive information for key clients and investors – these reports are made available to academic users for education and research purposes. Coverage is 2011 to current with a one week embargo. Lengthy reports cover equities and company performance, global and regional economics and financial strategy, foreign exchange, commodities, liquidity, and emerging markets.

Kanopy is a video streaming platform which offers a broad collection that includes over 26,000 films and videos from 800 top producers such as BBC Active, California Newsreel, Criterion Collection/Janus films, Documentary Educational Resources, First Run Features, The Great Courses, Green Planet Films, Kino Lorber Edu, Media Education Foundation, National Film Board of Canada, New Day Films, PBS, Psychotheraphy.net, the DEFA Film Library’s (East) German Film Collection, and many more. Kanopy launches over 300 new releases per month. Films range from documentaries, independent and foreign films, must-see classics, and blockbuster movies. With regard to topic coverage, humanities and the arts represent the largest category, followed by education and media/communication. Other strong categories are the sciences, social sciences, and history. Search for films by title, subject, keywords, or browse by subject. Register with Kanopy to utilize features such as playlists, clips, sharing, embedding, and creating a watch list for future viewing. Can’t find what you are looking for? Contact Kanopy and they will try to obtain the film for the database within several weeks.

Each of several Learning Centers (elementary to college and graduate school level) offers practice tests, exercises, skill-building courses, and e-books for learners of all ages to improve test preparation and test-taking skills. Includes sections on prep for GED, U.S. citizenship, job search & workplace skills, courses for Spanish speakers, and other job market skill-building tools. Sample tests for the GRE, LSAT, MCAT, and GMAT are included in this database.
Access: This resource is licensed by BadgerLink/Department of Public Instruction for use by all Wisconsin residents. Patrons must create a username and password to access tests. UW-Madison users need to be on-campus to create an account, then can use it off-campus.

NAICS: North American Industry Classification System (U.S. Census Bureau)
NAICS (pronounced “nakes”) is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy. NAICS replaced the SIC system in 1997. Use the NAICS Search to find the 2-6 digit code for your industry.

Scopus is a multidisciplinary abstract and citation database that covers science, technology, medicine, social sciences (including Business, Management, and Accounting), and arts and humanities.

SIC: Standard Industrial Classification (U.S. Department of Labor)
Last updated in 1987 and replaced by NAICS in 1997, SIC codes are 2-4 digit codes that define specific industries in North America.

Simmons Catalyst (MRI)
U.S. consumer data including demographics, psychographics, product usage, spending behavior and media habits. The data is compiled from the Simmons National Consumer Study of U.S. adults age 18 and older which is conducted each year. Contains a number of specialized research networks in the social sciences such as Accounting, Corporate Governance, Finance, Management, Marketing, and more. The Abstract Database contains abstracts on over 135,100 scholarly working papers and forthcoming papers, and the Electronic Paper Collection contains over 105,400 downloadable full text documents in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

Provides full-text online access to Springer’s journals, E-books, reference works, and protocols included in our subscriptions and “preview-only” access to materials outside of our subscriptions. Subjects include: Biomedical Sciences, Business & Management, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Sciences and Geography, Economics, Education & Language, Energy, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Food Sciences & Nutrition, Law, Life Sciences, Materials, Mathematics, Medicine, Physics, Psychology, Public Health, Social Sciences, and Statistics.

Statista
Searchable collection of market and consumer data from wide range of sources: government, NGOs, industry, marketing and trade groups. Statista includes ready-made statistical charts, graphs and tables on marketing, demographics, communication, technology, politics, health, leisure and public opinion polls. About 20 percent of the data in Statista comes from government sources like the World Bank and the U.S. Census. The rest comes from industry, marketing, and trade groups. The tables, charts and graphs can be downloaded as images or into Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel.

US Newsstream
US Newsstream enables users to search current U.S. news content, as well as archives that stretch back into the 1980s. It features top newspapers, wires, broadcast transcripts, blogs, and news sites in full-text format. US Newsstream provides key national and regional news sources from the U.S. and includes exclusive and preferred access to top titles, including The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Newsday, and Chicago Tribune. All titles are cross searchable on the ProQuest platform.

Value Line Investment Survey (Print Resource)
A comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks, more than 90 industries, the stock market, and the economy. The Ratings & Reports section consists of one-page reports containing Value Line’s timeliness, safety, and technical ratings, financial and stock price forecasts for the coming 3 to 5 years, an analyst’s written commentary, and more. The Summary & Index contains an index of all stocks in the publication as well as many up-to-date statistics to keep investors informed about the latest company results. It also contains a variety of stock “screens” designed to help investors identify companies with various characteristics. The Selection & Opinion section contains Value Line’s latest economic and stock market forecasts, one-page write-ups of interesting and attractive stocks, model portfolios, and financial and stock market statistics.
