Paywall Screening, Open Access Week (Oct 22)
How many times have you encountered a “paywall” when looking to read a full-text article? While frustrating and inconvenient to the individual, have you paused to consider how the high cost for access to the scholarly literature may interfere with the advancement of research and innovation? As an alternative, what are the advantages and challenges to open-access publishing?
If these concerns weigh heavily for you and your collaborators, join us for a free screening of the 2018 documentary, Paywall: The Business of Scholarship. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with UW-Madison experts Karl Broman, Professor, Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, Toni Gunnison, Journal Manager, UW Press, Dorothea Salo, Faculty Associate, iSchool and Doug Way, Associate University Librarian for Collections and Research.
This free screening and panel discussion will be held in the Marquee Theater, Union South on Monday, October 22 (3:30-5:30 PM).
