Black inventors who changed the world

February 2nd, 2018

Steenbock Library, the UW’s newly-designated Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC), is excited to announce our new display for Black History Month! We are highlighting Black inventors who have changed the world with patents for technologies used in lightbulbs, wrenches, the Super Soaker, eye care, space travel, steam engines, and much more.

Come to Steenbock to view the display of the inventors and their stories. Then test your knowledge by filling out an entry form matching the inventor with their story. Correct entry forms will be entered into a drawing for a free poster printing of your choice! (48” x 48” or smaller). Winner will be notified by email on March 1, 2018.

The display is in the front entry of Steenbock Library. Don’t forget to go to back to the long display case near Room 240 to look at the actual patents and get clues to help you complete your form.
