Plan to attend the Go Big Read signature event! A panel of UW-Madison experts will examine issues of addiction, education, health, politics and poverty, Monday, October 9, 2017 beginning at 7:00 PM in the Wisconsin Union Theater, Shannon Hall, Memorial Union.
Chancellor Rebecca Blank and a review committee of campus faculty, staff and students selected J.D. Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis as the 2017-2018 shared book selection for the UW-Madison campus.
Through the lens of personal narrative, the author examines the choices and sacrifices made by those living within economically-declining communities of the United States. He reflects, too, upon the value of mentoring relationships to enable one to broker alternatives to a cyclical experience of poverty and its fallout.
No ticket will be required to attend this, free, public event. A question/answer session with the audience will follow discussion with the panelists.
The event will be live-streamed at the Go Big Read site for those unable to attend.
