The Libraries are pleased to announce that Rob Howard, Professor, Communication Arts, has accepted the Director of DesignLab position effective February 1, 2016.

The Director of DesignLab is a faculty position responsible for the direction of an innovative, Madison Initiative for Undergraduates (MIU) funded digital composition center located in College Library’s Computer & Media Center. DesignLab has been in operation since 2011. The position is a 3-year renewable, 50% FTE, 12 month appointment reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Libraries and University Librarian.

Dr. Howard replaces Dr. Jon McKenzie who is returning to his full time faculty appointment in the English Department. Professor McKenzie conceptualized DesignLab, secured its funding, and implemented the program.

According to Dr. Howard, “this position presents an exciting opportunity for me to expand and diversify digital studies at Wisconsin by more closely integrating the Digital Studies Undergraduate Certificate and the Digital Studies Research Cluster, both of which I direct, with the powerful resources already offered by DesignLab and elsewhere on campus.”

Ed Van Gemert, Vice Provost for Libraries and University Librarian, said “we are indebted to Dr. McKenzie for his leadership and we look forward to working closely with Dr. Howard as he and his staff work to fulfill DesignLab’s full potential at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.”
